The Mitchell County Juvenile Crime Prevention Council (JCPC) announces the availability of $84,134 in intervention and prevention funds for services to delinquent youth and those at risk of delinquency.  JCPC funds require a local cash or in-kind match of 20%. Funds are dependent upon appropriation by the NC Legislature.

Based on the JCPC planning process conducted to date, the program services needed in Mitchell County have been identified as the following:

  • Interpersonal Skills
  • Restitution and Community Service
  • Mediation
  • Vocational Development and Life Skills Services
  • Temporary Shelter for court referred youth
  • Parent and Family Skill Building
  • Teen Court/Restorative Justice/Sentencing Circles

Preference will be given to agencies or organizations that propose to provide services to all appropriate court-referred youth rather than those who will only accept a specific number of referrals.

Local public agencies, 501 (c) 3 non-profit corporations and local housing authorities wishing to submit applications for programs to provide any of these services are required complete an application to the JCPC. Programs not currently funded must contact Misti Silver, JCPC Chair, by February 10 for application information at msilver@mayland.edu or 828.766.1340.

Completed applications are due electronically to Misti Silver by 12:00 noon on March 3, 2022.
